4 Years, 5 Lessons That Changed Everything with JCI

Over the past 4 years, I’ve been actively involved with a global leadership development nonprofit organization, starting as a general member and now proudly serving as the National Vice President of JCI Bangladesh.

Additionally, I work with the JCI APDC team as a Development Officer, supporting JCI Timor Leste in securing their affiliation.

During this 4-year journey, I’ve experienced invaluable lessons and rediscovered principles that have profoundly impacted my professional growth.

In this post, I’d like to share the 5 key lessons I’ve learned from JCI. 🌱

1. Big Wins Come from Strong Teams:

In JCI, I learned that big achievements are only possible when a team works together. We pulled off major events in a short amount of time because everyone was dedicated and focused. Raising internal and external sponsorships became easier when the team was aligned.

For example, last month, we successfully organized a JCI Local Officers Training with over 400 participants — all within a week of planning. The event involved securing the venue, arranging three meals, designing banners, managing logistics, handling registrations, coordinating trainers, and ensuring everything ran smoothly. It was a true testament to teamwork, dedication, and efficient execution. 🌟

2. Small Efforts Can Lead to Big Changes:

We don’t always need big donations to make a difference. Here are few examples.

  1. During the floods in Bangladesh at 2024, we raised nearly 1 million BDT because everyone chipped in from JCI Dhaka Founders, contributing anywhere from 1k to 10k BDT. Together, we were able to help so many people.
  2. Just last week, we raised 50,000 BDT within a few hours to support an injured individual in Barishal who needed urgent funds for an operation following a road accident.

These are just a couple of examples—our contributions go far beyond this

3. Networking Opens Doors:

The more you connect, the better opportunities you create. JCI helped me build strong relationships, gain new knowledge, collaborate on business ideas, and become a more confident leader. The connections I made weren’t just friendships—they became opportunities for growth.

For example, last month, I traveled to Kuala Lumpur and the USA, where I had the opportunity to meet with several JCI leaders. Today, I’m excited to share that I’ve signed a collaboration agreement with a fellow founder in Malaysia. Together, we’ll be working to expand both of our brands, creating new growth opportunities and strengthening our global network. 🌍✨

Will share more details soon.

4. Dressing for Success Matters:

Coming from the IT world, I wasn’t used to wearing formal clothes in meetings. At first, JCI’s dress code felt unnecessary, but over time, I saw the impact. As my business grew, dressing formally added an extra layer of credibility, making it easier to command attention in important meetings.

5. Stay Focused, Ignore the Noise:

Like any organization, JCI isn’t free from politics. But I learned that the key to success is staying focused on your work, being honest, and consistently delivering value. When you focus on creating positive outcomes, the noise fades into the background.

These lessons have shaped the way I think and work, and I’m excited to carry them forward in everything I do.
